Non-profit governance
The governance of non-profit organizations is guided by the same principles as those of any other organization.
The fundamental difference between them and private enterprise is that the primary responsibility of board directors is to act primarily for others’ benefit rather than for the organization’s profit. This orientation then, changes the approach directors must use to guide the organization’s direction and oversee its sustainability.
Examples:
- We assisted the board of the Ukrainian Canadian Archives and Museum of Alberta (UCAMA) to develop a business plan and an advanced fund-raising and operational strategy.
- AAGI’s principal is a past chair of Capital Care Foundation’s fundraising committee. He also facilitated a very large donation made by a trade association to a rehabilitation facility in Alberta. In addition, he helped to establish a long-term care program for Polish seniors in Edmonton.
